Best of Oslo: 7 Food Favorites

Last updated August 2018

Lofthus Samvirkelag

There is pizza, and there is Pizza. The pizza with the large P can be found at Lofthus Samvirkelag. Lofthus Samvirkelag has several locations, and we usually visit the one at Holtet. The white pizza with spinach, caramelized onions, Italian brown mushroom and white Undredal cheese, is nothing short of magic.

Bobo’s Pizza

Lofthus Samvirkelag makes the luxury variant of pizza. A somewhat more budget-friendly pizza option is made by Bobo’s Pizza in Bøler. Bobo’s Pizza is a beloved favorite by the local community, and although we do not live there, we still take the trip to Bobo’s frequently. Our favorites are “Bobo’s Special” and their version of the Italian cheese bomb “Calzone.”

Dinner Bar & Restaurant

For special occasions, Dinner Bar & Restaurant, just next to National Theater station, is one of our favorite restaurants. We have eaten a lot of the dishes on the menu but usually come back to order “Crispy duck.” Thin pancakes are filled with duck, spring onion, cucumber and hoisin sauce, and tastes amazing. The service may vary at Dinner, but the food is always great!

Punjab Tandoori

Since we are talking about Asian food, we must mention our Indian favorite, located in the area of Grønland. Punjab Tandoori has served cheap and tasty Indian food since 1990. In the kitchen, Mrs. Singh has been cooking right from the start, and she still makes the food today. Look for “Todays Special” for an extra good offer, or try our favorite “Chicken Tikka Masala.” The naan bread that follows the dishes is, in our opinion, the best in Oslo.

Chillout Travel Store

When we plan new trips to far and near, we often visit Chillout at Grünerløkka. Chillout is a travel shop and cafe with nice ambiance and fantastic cocoa. Our favorite is the Caribbean version called Caribbean Cocoa. Here intense chocolate flavor meets a hint of coconut, and together they reach new cocoa heights. In addition to the cocoa, we always order the Cholocate & Chilibun.

Rustadsaga Sportsstue

Rustadsaga Sportsstue offers a more traditional Norwegian vibe. With its location by the Nøklevann lake in Østmarka woods, it is a very popular cafe, known for its freshly baked goods. Here everything tastes delicious, but we are especially weak for the buns filled with vanilla cream.

UR kraft + kolonial

Finally, we have to mention a newcomer to the food scene in Oslo. UR kraft + kolonial is located at Grünerløkka and opened the doors in June 2017 (then named UR Økologisk Kolonial og Spiseri). Despite not being open for very long, they have already managed to become one of our favorites when we want healthy food that also tastes tremendously good. UR serves homemade broth and stews based on organic and sustainable ingredients. In the broth bar, you can fill your own cup with delicious broth and vegetables or meat. Do have a glass of kombucha with the meal!
